Tough Guy Ambition

Tough Guy™ has the ambition to build a course ‘on the doorstep’ of every man, woman and child.

To achieve this we go back to the roots of Tough Guy™ to 1986-1991 whence the first sods were dug and the very name Tough Guy™ was placed upon an old fashioned cross country run, with an added bundle of man made and natural obstacles. With a pledge to build 1 to 10 new obstacles to each event total today over 250

It’s less than two weeks, I’m excited and now feel good about my training and looking forward to the challenge. A friend (who doubles as our Bootcamp instructor during the week) has organized a bus (Thanks Richard). It’s going to be a big day out!

We are all going to be up early so we can leave at 5am. So an early night is a must, Bags packed, food packed, extra clothing packed.

Alys’ Day Plan:

4:00am – wake – Big glass of Lemon and warm water

5:00am – Meet – Don’t be late!

8:00am – Eat Breakfast I have made the night before. Porridge: Oats, Coconut oil, blueberries, sunflower and pumpkin seeds, cinnamon, nutmeg, Honey.

9:00am – Hydrate with Electrolyte Energy drink – 1 cup coconut water, 1 cup of Yerba mate tea steeped over night.

10:00am – Eat – 2x Dates to keep my energy up.

10:30am – Tough guy challenge starts

——- What ever time I finish I’ll stretch, shower and get into some nice warm clothes (you can never have too many). Have a lemon & lime recovery drink(recipe below) from the Thrive Fitness training program book.——-

What I will be wearing

I will wear full length compression gear made by 2XU.

The Benefits for wear 2XU are: Greater oxygenation of blood for faster recovery, Reduced fatigue through less muscle oscillation, Reduced muscle soreness, Reduced long-term overuse injuries, Faster muscle warm up pre-exercise.

2XU Top

2XU Leggings

Over this I will wear shorts and a short sleeve running top as compression gear is not so flattering!

For shoes at this stage I will be wearing my Nike Frees and gaffer taping them on so they can not come off in the mud. If I was there to race I would invest in a good pair of Asics Trail runners.

I’m also considering a swimming hat.

Please let me know below if you have any other thoughts or if you have done Tough Guy and know what to wear and prep.

Big Love

Alys  xx
