Today I’m at Fitness First HQ and getting in a Power Plate workout. I’ve been a fan and trainer of vibration training for a long time now. I really enjoy it.
Vibration Training has been labelled the microwave of fitness, a quick workout. Vibrations work by transmitting waves of energy throughout the body. It activates muscle contractions between 25 and 50 times per second.
Vibration Chairs date back to the 1880s and were used as a wellness strategy for patients. It was later taken to athletes and astronauts where it was found to improve flexibility and strength. Due to the lack of gravity in space, astronauts exhibited muscle atrophy and bone loss, which forced them to return to earth, cutting their missions short. To prevent muscle and bone loss on long term missions the European Space Agency are experimenting with various types of vibration systems as a supplement to other fitness training in space.
Vibration training will never replace my traditional weight training as I enjoy lifting weights too much to give that up. But I do love to use it in between or when I’m very sore from training, it also has a bonus that it’s meant to help you lose cellulite, I’m in!
On the Power Plate you can do all your normal functional movements, Squats, lungs, push ups, planks etc…. like you can with weights all in less than 1 minute a movement. So its a great time saver and you don’t get too sweaty so you could easily do this in your lunch break. When I worked in a Vibration training studio in Queenstown New Zealand we used to take people through a full body workout within 15 minutes.
