Open water swimming – Fuerteventura
A few weeks ago there was a 2.5km swim in Gran Tarajal, Fuerteventura Canary Islands run by Aquaviva Team. It was a day with a big swell and the sea was better for surfing than swimming but here the race went on. You can see the surfers where the swimmers entered the water at the start/finish line.
Fuerteventura is amazing for opening water swimming. I love swimming so now we live here I’ll be entering as many races as I can as well as training in the open water. I brought a new Orca S6 swim suit for it and now I’m on the hunt for the next event. There is also a 7km swim in the Canary Islands from Lanzarote to Fuerteventura every year, anyone want to come join me?
I’ve also realised I need to up my swimming game here in Fuerteventura. I’m up against athletes and Tri-athletes that live here or are visiting for training camps. Not that I need to win but I’d like to be closer to the front of the pack, wish me luck with my swim training.
All the best to you lovely people! Thank you for reading and enjoy the photos next week we are climbing mountains in Fuerteventura.
Big love
Wow, those are BIG waves for swimming. Good luck with your sports.

Are you still swimming? I’m coming out for 5 weeks in October and would like to find some good and safe places to swim. Thanks. Claire

Hello Claire! I hope you are well. Thank you for getting in touch. Do you know what area you are staying in Fuerteventura? My Favorite place to Swim that is safe would be Las Playitas bay, beautiful water and another safe place would the lagoon Castillo Caleta de Fuste. Do use a swimmers buoy anywhere you go here to be safe and seen. Look forward to hearing about your travels. Alys xx
